SiteOps Global Data Center Operations Engineer
Meta is seeking an experienced individual contributor with a deep technical background to drive operational efficiency and effectiveness at our data centers. Operations is focused on ensuring our global fleet of compute, accelerators, and storage infrastructure is able to reliably and efficiently meet the ever-growing demand of more than 3 billion people actively engaged with Meta and our suite of applications. The global operations engineer works with peer organizations and regional teams such as network operations, program management, facilities/maintenance management, logistics, supply chain operations, strategic planning, and capacity engineering to successfully deliver and maintain data center capacity to support ongoing business growth. Moreover, the global operations engineer collaborates with cross-functional organizations and teams across the data center fleet to build and execute a strategic roadmap that anticipates our future needs.The Global Operations Engineer will drive initiatives that deliver a more efficient and effective operations model across our hyper-scale fleet of servers. We are seeing a subject matter expert who can drive innovation spanning the integrated systems of people, processes, infrastructure, tooling, automation, cost, and quality initiatives. This engineer will be responsible for driving tactical actions that support the strategic goals that they and other leaders put in place. Work includes optimizing operational processes, designing more efficient workflows, and reducing the time it takes to perform work. As such, we seek a leader who can quickly absorb and understand the technical challenges associated with delivering and sustaining data center capacity and implementing maintenance practices for a myriad of workloads, and in a rapidly evolving technical environment. The successful candidate will gain alignment across our data center operations teams and with teammates across Meta Infrastructure, prioritizing resources and focus areas to drive initiatives that deliver significant, measurable impact, all in line with our strategic priorities. Strategic thinking, strong technical depth, and proven business acumen are essential in this role. You are well-versed in current technological trends and familiar with a variety of business and operations concepts. You will drive innovative initiatives and deliver the right automation, processes, insights, and standards to enable Meta’s growth globally.
Required Skills
SiteOps Global Data Center Operations Engineer Responsibilities:
- Act as subject matter expert on operational practices, at scale, utilizing rigorous methods such as management systems, lean and six-sigma practices, root cause analysis, change management techniques, sustaining methodologies, and more
- Formulate the right metrics and definitions of success to drive quality, effectiveness, efficiency, scalability, cost, and timeliness
- Develop and advocate for key operational initiatives based on quantified global impact
- Align the global team behind these metrics and key initiatives, and be a critical driver ensuring rapid, coordinated, and effective responses to issues as they arise
- Drive quality production at scale taking into account a heterogeneous equipment set
- Drive the right data analytics and statistical analysis to identify operational inefficiencies, opportunities, exceptions, and fault/event correlations
- Anticipate potential operational risks and develop strategies to minimize or mitigate
- Provide data driven narratives, determine priority focus areas, develop specific intentional action plans, validate cause/effect, share best practices and lessons learned
- Develop and then execute to roadmaps for operations improvement, including tooling, workflows, technology, skills, etc.
- Maintain a close partnership and support data center teams while leading globally
- Approximately ~30% travel required
Minumum Qualification
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proven experience, with 10+ years, as an Engineering or Operations Director, or relevant Senior Technical, Operations or Engineering Lead role in a mature organization that has operated at scale
- Operational, technical and leadership experience
- Proven experience leading operations, tooling, systems, and automation improvement
- Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Advanced knowledge of lean operational processes and methodologies
- Working in a fast paced, hands-on environment experience
- Extensive experience communicating to a variety of audiences, from VPs to individual contributors. Experience to convey technical information clearly and concisely to non-technical audiences
- BS/MS in Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar technical discipline
