Job Description
The Sr. Network Engineer will be responsible for supporting, configuring and improving Applied Technology’s LAN/WAN networks. This individual will ensure the stability, integrity, security, and efficient operation of network infrastructure, services, and related technologies in support of core organizational functions and will be the primary subject matter expert for everything networking related in the organization. We are looking for a qualified Sr. Network Engineer to design, perform installation, and configuration of network products such as switches, routers and firewalls. This position will also be responsible for configuring and optimizing data, and voice services, driving project planning/execution, and assisting in defining/evolving infrastructure architectures. The position will need to adhere to strict network security policies and baselines to comply with government regulations such as NIST 800-171 and CMMC.
Scope of Responsibilities / Expectations
Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain the necessary U.S. Government security clearances as required by government contracts.
Plan, design, implement, and support multiple network systems with mostly Juniper, Fortinet, and Palo Alto switches and firewalls
Design and support remote WAN connections to/from remote Applied Technology sites using IPSEC and SSL VPNs.
Support and maintain wired 802.1x network authentication systems (Radius) for end-user workstation authentication. Experience with PulseSecure is highly desirable.
Perform Tier 2-3 networking support within Applied Technology to resolve network issues for end users and system administrators
Work closely with Applied Technology project teams on unique setup and configuration of test network environments
Managing and frequently updating network configuration settings for internal and external systems, including setting up DNS, DHCP, VPN, SD-WAN and VLANs
Support maintenance window activities on production networks when required
Adhere to government security regulations such as NIST 800-171 and CMMC L3
Assist in the operational, strategic planning, and business continuity / disaster recovery solutions
Mentoring or providing guidance to other IT team members in executing tasks related to network components
Create, manage and, secure network security (IDS/IPS) related activities
Ensuring technology documents/certificates such as product registrations, licensing, activations, SSL certificates, maintenance agreements, service contracts, etc. related to technology operations and/or technology services are evaluated, updated and processed
Create and maintain accurate system documentation
Work with vendors to understand applications of their products as it relates to data network design. Determine the most economically feasible solution to meet expectations within established guidelines
Study industry trends and information on technological advances and make recommendations on application of these technologies for standard use in the company’s network to include technical briefings to upper level management
Desired Experience
Cisco CCNP and/or applicable certifications are highly desirable
8+ Years Experience with Juniper and/or Cisco routing and switching technologies within an enterprise organization
5+ Years Experience with configuring firewalls (Juniper/Fortigate/Palo Alto) within an enterprise organization
Experience using encryption technologies (IPSEC, SSL) and network address translations (NAT)
Experience with managing advanced routing protocols on large LAN or remote WAN environments.
Advanced troubleshooting skills to resolve technical issues at all layers of OSI or TCP/IP models. Proven ability to use built-in and 3rd party tools such as Wireshark to troubleshoot issues
In depth knowledge and understanding of networking technologies, design principles, and the practical application of routers, switches, virtualization, storage, storage networking virtualization/zoning, and network security
Experience with patching and running fiber, CAT5/CAT6, SFP modules, etc.
System Admin knowledge of Linux or Windows is beneficial
Working experience with cloud technologies such as AWS or Microsoft Azure
Experience with NIST 800-171 or CMMC is highly desirable
Self-sufficient and have the ability to make engineering decisions within the documented process.
Demonstrated ability to systematically troubleshoot problems in complex systems and network environments
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal, customer service, and interpersonal skills
Strong documentation skills and experience generating technical documents, diagrams, solutions specifications, guidelines, processes, and procedures.
Excellent understanding of network protocols and ports (TCP/IP, SSH, FTP, ICA, HTTPS, etc.)
Ability to organize, prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines with a can-do attitude
Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities and tight timelines
Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds
Ability to work after hours and weekends if needed
Basic Requirements

Associate's or Bachelor's Degree with 8+ years of network engineering experience or Master’s Degree with 6+ years of network engineering experience
