Intern-NJBU 2022-2023
Position Description: Both the co-op and summer intern positions with Turner span a
whole host of fun and unique assignments! Depending on the availability of each semester, you could expect to be
placed on an active construction project in one of our many specialties, a
department located in a main office working in preconstruction/estimating or
business development, or assigned to one of our smaller divisions such as
Special Projects. Either way, you will be exposed to real work and an
opportunity to step in and help immediately
Reports to the: Project Engineer, Project Superintendent or Department Head
Essential Duties & Responsibilities*:
Engineering: Assist the Engineer with obtaining
information and approvals for processing shop drawings and submittals.
Disseminate Construction information to appropriate parties. Assist in the
preparation of contract items list.
Superintendent: Monitor field
variations and keep the Project Superintendent informed of any changes. Ensure
that subcontractors understand and adhere to the job schedule. Ensure
subcontractor compliance with Turner’s safety program, safety codes and
regulations.
Preconstruction/Estimating: Assist
in the preparation of complete quantity take-offs and studies for all items
incorporated in the project using either traditional or computer-aided
programs, discussing details necessary to complete the project with the
assigned estimator. Prepare correspondence at the direction of the assigned estimator
to Architects, Engineers, Vendors and Subcontractors in connection with
performing their assigned trades. Request and distribute subcontractor
proposals relative to their scope of work to assemble proposals for any
delivery system.

Qualifications: Current student at a college or university offering degree programs; intense interest and passion for the Construction Industry and a desire to work in a team environment. Demonstrate leadership and Interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Computer skills and a familiarity with Microsoft office suite programs.Physical Demands: Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Intern must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the intern can work in an office or on-site at the construction work site where the intern is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
