Description
Job Description:The Leidos Innovations Center has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Engineer to work in our La Jolla or Vista offices in San Diego, CA. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your experience to develop and produce microfluidics equipment, advanced nuclear detection, radiography equipment, chemical and biological sensing instruments, and satellite sensor systems. Emphasis is on research and development with activities ranging from support of early scientific research to transitioning technology to production.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design, Develop, Test, and integrate all mechanical aspects of Chemical, Biological, Radiation, Nuclear, and Space sensor systems for federal government customers.
- Collaborate in engineering product development, testing, and scientific research activities.
- Contribute to design reviews and present designs for review.
- With general guidance from scientists, work independently and use judgement to perform engineering tasks with uncertain and evolving requirements.
- Use judgment to perform technical troubleshooting and diagnosis of failed equipment and support root cause analysis.
- Perform data analysis and contribute to technical reports.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field from an accredited college/university and 4+ years or Master’s with 2+ years of relevant experience as a mechanical engineer in an R&D environment.
- Experience working with cross-functional R&D development teams.
- Motivated self-starter able to work under minimal supervision, and an entrepreneurial approach to roles and responsibilities.
- Well-organized, reliable, attention to detail, demonstrated personal initiative. Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload. Good interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate work with others. Good oral and written communication skills.
- Able to build BOM’s and assembly work instructions.
- Experience with definition, setup, characterization, and testing of complex systems, including design of experiments, reliability life tests, and root cause analysis.
- 0-20% travel to customer sites as required.
- Must have a current active Secret security clearance (or higher) with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters’ degree or higher preferred.
- Experience leading small teams on projects or tasks.
- Experience with GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
- Experience in any of the following: Design, integration, Microfluidics component design & test, composites, design for manufacturing, shock and vibration analysis, precision motion control, MIL-STD-810 testing, system engineering, technical project planning, heat transfer & thermodynamics, control systems, and/or biotechnology.

Pay Range:Pay Range $78,000.00 - $120,000.00 - $162,000.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
