Job Description:
The GIG Service Management – Operations II (GSM-O II), a program within the Defense Group of Leidos, has an opening for a Junior Data Science Engineer. The Network Performance and Reliability Team is a community of data analysts and data engineers with backgrounds in diverse technologies. Our customer is the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) located at Scott AFB, IL and acts as the provider of GIG/Defense Information System Network (DISN) services to the Department of Defense (DoD) and national security organizations.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Assist data engineers with quality control of data, data collection processes, and testing/implementing data collection and process improvements
• Assist other data engineers collecting, cleaning, combining, reformatting, and enriching data
• May assist other team members in the development of informational tools, algorithms, dashboards, and queries to monitor and improve network performance and reliability.
• Assist senior team members with the migration of data to new storage locations while following proper security policy processes.
• Aid senior team members in supporting GSMO Program driven Innovations development, integration, and continuous improvement by leveraging, maintaining, and in the creation/maintenance of various tools.
• Support and enhance a holistic approach to improving network and service reliability utilizing analytics and innovation to obtain the highest level of availability and performance.
• Responsible for collection, analysis, trending, and proactive remediation measures to ensure continued operability and efficiency of the DISN and JRSS networks.
• Solve stakeholder problems and improve business efficiency through direct quantitative and qualitative data analysis, followed by the design, implementation, and documentation of the solutions as repeatable processes.
Basic Qualifications:
• Requires BS degree or equivalent experience and less than 2 years prior relevant experience. Specific experience, education and training may be considered in lieu of degree.
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical staff, program leadership, and with business customers
• Strong written and verbal skills
• Collaborates well in a team environment.
• Ability to develop and employ automation in support of both internal and external network management practices to improve overall service availability.
• Proficiency with databases like Microsoft Access and SQL to include SQL and VBA coding
• Experience in R, Java, Scala, SAS, SPSS, Expect, Python, SQL, Perl, or similar.
• Practical hands-on data experience, including the ability to hypothesize, test and explain statistical analysis techniques that can be applied to the data to provide business value.
• Ability to obtain interim Secret DoD Security clearance prior to start date.
• Currently possess DoD 8750 certification at IAT level II, Security+ CE or CCNA Security.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Excellent organizational skills in order to actively monitor, track, analyze, and report problem candidates and tickets.
• Correlate large diverse data sets including tickets, alarms, probes, and other performance data to identify trends and relations
• Understanding of database management and querying for specific data sets
• An understanding of and ability to apply principles, theories, and concepts of technical domain and has broad understanding of other related specialty areas including Trouble Management, Change Management and SLA Management
• Experience actively managing and configuring DISN Network Services including IP (SBU and SIPRNET), DWDM, SONET, ODXC, MSPP, Corestream, Unified Capabilities, and/or JRSS is a plus
• Knowledge and experience with BMC Remedy, BMC ITSM, ServiceNow, or other ticketing software.
• Experience with Big Data tools including Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana, Apache Kafka, NiFi, Apache Spark, Neo4J, Predictive Insights, and Splunk.
• Practical experience with Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and/or Artificial Intelligence and the ability to apply these techniques concrete problems.
• Experience with text mining tools and techniques, including in areas of summarization, search (e.g., ELK Stack), entity extraction, training set generation, and anomaly detection.
• Ability to articulate data requirements and translate requirements from stakeholders for AI/ML project needs.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $53,300.00 - $82,000.00 - $110,700.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
