Maintenance - Pipe Fitter
Overview
The Maintenance - Pipe Fitter performs a variety of trade skilled duties involving general fitting piping systems on vessels, burning/ brazing, testing and sketching piping systems. The Maintenance - Pipe Fitter operates equipment for assembly and installation: performs preventive and predictive maintenance on facility machinery: records work performed and follows specified safety policies and procedures. This position subject to CBA requirements.

Major Job Activities:
• Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.
• Must have the ability to identify piping by size, schedule and material type.
• Must have the ability to identify piping by size, schedule and material type.
• Must be proficient in the the fit up requirements for the following joint designs: P3, P-14, P-15, P-68, P-71, and P-3B including calculation of diametrical clearances, end gap, and root openings.
• Must be able to target an existing pipe spool and repair/replace.
• Must be able to lay out and conduct pipe bending offsets.
• Must have a thorough understanding of blanking and isolation requirements of piping systems.
• Must have a thorough understanding of piping system testing (hydrostatic, air, compressed gas)
• Must be able to safely operate the following equipment: vertical band saw, vertical drill press, bench grinder, hydraulic pipe bender, pipe threading machine, oxy/gas braze and burning torch, plasma cutter.
• Must be able calculate and understand units of measurement, including fractions and decimals, using tape measurer, and scale.
Material & Equipment Directly Used:
- Basic trade hand tools used on the job.
Working Environment:
• Must be able to work indoors and outdoors including times of inclement weather.
• Includes some industrial production environment conditions.
Physical Activities:
• Must be able to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, twist, and bend for extended periods of time.Use arms and hands to reach for, handle or manipulate objects.
• Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift items weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance.
• Manual dexterity needed for repetitive tasks and to operate standard operating equipment.
• Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work.
• Ability to climb a ladder and step into various pieces of equipment.
• Good physical fitness, eye hand coordination and ability to quickly respond to sounds.
• Good sense of balance with ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
• Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
• Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
Qualifications
Education / Certifications:
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Active Secret Clearance.
Experience / Skills:
• Proficient in the base skill of Pipefitter.
• Completed pipefitting apprentice program or equivalent experience.
• At least three (3) years of industrial maintenance experience.
• Pass and maintain all medical and fit-testing requirements for respiratory equipment.
• Possess and be able to use a complete set of mechanical tools.
• Available and willing to work rotating shifts including some mandatory overtime.
• Maintain environmental and safety compliance.
• Maintain excellent housekeeping habits in working environment.
• Computer literacy.
• Strong communication skills.
• Regular and predictable attendance.
• Able and willing to work at heights and confined spaces.
