Summary of Job Duties:The Ralph E. Martin Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Arkansas has an opening for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow with expertise in living radical polymerization reactions, polymer characterization, and industrial applications of polymers working in Keisha Walters’ lab. In addition to a strong background in synthetic polymer chemistry in fundamental polymer synthesis, polymer network chemistry, sustainable materials, and/or nano-biomaterials, applicants must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Applicants are also expected to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team setting and act as mentors to students / colleagues. Applicants must have already completed and submitted any dissertation and paper efforts with previous advisor(s) prior to starting this position. The candidate will be mentored in preparation for a future career in academia or industry, including project management, proposal writing, and effective scientific communication skills. Candidates will have the opportunity to prepare peer-reviewed manuscripts, attend scientific conferences, and collaborate with partners in industry, national labs, and other universities.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering, polymer chemistry, materials science/engineering, nanotechnology, biomedical engineering/biotechnology, or a related discipline from an accredited institution

  • Demonstrated creativity, a drive for scientific inquiry, and an ability to link fundamental science to real-world applications

  • Experience in the synthesis of polymeric materials and physical and chemical characterization of materials is required

  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
