Summary of Job Duties:

We are looking for an Assistant Professor in Food Chemistry (a 12-month position with 65% research and 35% teaching appointments), who can collaboratively contribute to our vision of strengthening food systems through fundamental knowledge of chemistry to enable the manufacturing of safe, health-promoting foods with novel textures. The successful candidate will be expected to use a multi-disciplinary systems approach to develop a nationally recognized research program with expertise in food chemistry in one or more of the following areas, but not limited to; investigating relationships between the structure and functional properties of food for improving the nutritional, safety, and sensory properties of food, which will lead to novel value-added products or ingredients from agricultural commodities; characterizing chemical changes in foods using advanced analytical techniques; investigating physicochemical properties of food biopolymers; designing new food structures through physical and chemical interactions of food components for emerging food products.

The candidate will secure extramural funding from various sources including federal, state, industry, and private sources to manage a nationally recognized research program by recruiting and advising graduate and undergraduate students. The candidate will develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses based on the interests and needs of the Department of Food Science. He/she will serve the Department, Division, and College committees as assigned, and an opportunity and expertise permit.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in Food Science or closely related discipline conferred by the start of employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated potential to excel in conducting and publishing high-impact research, developing an independent research program, collaborating within interdisciplinary teams of scientists, and successful grant writing

  • Demonstrated strong speaking and writing communication skills

  • Motivation and demonstrated skills to effectively educate students through academic programs in Food Science

  • Relevant post-doctoral studies and industry experience
