Summary of Job Duties:
Summary:This is a grant-funded position with employment contingent upon satisfactory performance. The Program Technician – Rice Agronomy will work with Extension Specialists in Rice to execute the overall Extension and research program in cooperation with other Division of Agriculture personnel and industry cooperators. The successful candidate will assist in compiling, analyzing, and communicating research data. The person will be required to help plan, plant, maintain, spray, collect data, and harvest plots in rice and related rotational crops. Candidate will also assist with data entry, report writing, and analysis of data. Candidate will also be responsible for supervising seasonal workers.
Duties:
Plan, plant, maintain, spray, collect data, and harvest plots in rice and related rotational crops. Supervise test plot maintenance and chemical application, collection of samples, test evaluation, and data collection. Field sites will be located on research station and production fields throughout the state.
Skills:
Proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Office applications, data management, and email. Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work from multiple projects. Ability to exercise initiative, make sound judgements, and assume responsibility for various projects and activities. Ability to respond positively to direction from supervisors and work without direct supervision.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or related field is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Relevant work experience in small and large block field trials. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and other relevant computer programs. Proficiency in driving, maintaining, and operating agricultural equipment is highly preferred.
