Summary of Job Duties:Summary:
The County Extension Agent – Family & Consumer Sciences conducts practical, community-based educational programs to empower individuals, families, & communities in the area of nutrition, family well-being, health, food safety, & economic self-sufficiency. The agent works closely with a broad audience base & local volunteers to solicit support & participation within the county.

Develops and maintains an adequate knowledge of the social, economic, political, and cultural characteristics of the county. Maintains effective liaison with local leaders. Helps analyze situational information with other county faculty members and identifies educational needs of clientele that can be met through Extension program activities.

Assists as required with County Extension Council or its subcommittees. Gives leadership or assists in preparing the plan of work relating to area assigned. Works with community leaders to identify low-income, food stamp eligible audiences for the SNAP-ED and EFNEP Programs.

Conducts educational programs in area of assigned responsibility. Provides educational information to leaders in organized groups that facilitate and assist in carrying out the county Extension program. Organizes programs around needs of clientele for both learning and leadership development. Recruits and trains leaders. Provides counsel and assistance to leaders in organizing, conducting, and evaluating meetings and programs. Utilizes Extension specialists and other resource personnel for subject matter, teaching methods, and other materials. Uses appropriate educational methods in disseminating information. Performs other organizational duties and tasks as assigned.

Evaluates program efforts based on stated objectives. Recommends improvements as needed. Utilizes County Extension Council and others to evaluate program process and results.

Disseminates information through newsletters. Utilizes telephone and office visits to assist clientele. Makes home visits as needed. Serves as a resource person for civic and service organizations when teaching is requested.

Assists with 4-H Leader Training Programs. Works with county staff to conduct 4-H educational programs and activities at the County, District, and/or State levels including transportation of clientele to activities when necessary.

Responsible for keeping current in civil rights compliance and knowledgeable of civil rights rules and regulations. Plans and conducts educational activities to target minorities in order to achieve parity of participation by race and gender. Maintains minimum of 25% male participation in family and consumer sciences program. Maintains minimum of 80% of parity of underrepresented race in family and consumer sciences program. Conducts all reasonable efforts in membership areas to the underrepresented groups in EHC. Maintains necessary records for civil rights documentation. Responsible for completion of the family and consumer sciences program area section of civil rights reports. Maintains knowledge of public notification to assure nondiscrimination of all programs.

Works with Extension Homemaker Club leaders to plan yearly programs in areas of emphasis. Works with 4-H leaders and parents to plan project workshops. Completes annual individual plan of work based on issues identified by program area committees in Family & Consumer Science. Works with other faculty members on long and short range program planning in the 4-H program area. Provides leadership in preparing and presenting relevant educational material for planning and updating the county long range program plan.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in family & consumer sciences or related field of study is required. Must have transportation for use on the job with liability insurance in effect. Must agree to a background check authorizing release of relevant Arkansas Child Abuse & Neglect Central Registry records.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge in one or more family & consumer sciences subject matter areas appropriate to the county assignment. Ability to speak & write clearly & communicate ideas effectively. Ability to work long, irregular hours & travel frequently. Ability to conduct & plan programs & work with all clientele regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, marital or veteran status, or any other legally protected status.
