Electrical Engineer
Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates electronic, electromechanical components, equipment, systems including RF, at Low Energy Accelerator Facility (LEAF). Designs RF and electrical equipment, controls, components, systems, and products. Assesses capabilities of existing electrical components, equipment, and systems for R&D projects focused on discovering new knowledge about products and processes; applies that knowledge to create new and improved products and processes. Provides systems analysis of RF and electronic systems and subsystems. Develops and applies inspection and test procedures for components and systems. Conducts experimental tests on equipment and evaluates results. Develops specifications for selecting components and equipment to use. Support research and development activities at LEAF.
Coordinates a small group of technicians and engineers under the leadership of the LEAF facility manager.
In this position, you will:
- Design and oversee upgrades to accelerator RF systems.
- Responsible for maintaining accelerator electrical systems including RF systems and control electronics
- Direct and oversee upgrades to the other electronic/electrical systems of the accelerators.
- Performs modeling and simulation calculations to support facility and process development.
- Write Technical reports and papers for internal and external publication.
- Develops new ideas, and concepts to expand the facility capabilities, expand the scope of existing programs, and lead to the development of new programs.
Position Requirements
- Considerable skills and experience in accelerator systems electrical design.
- Considerable skills and experience in high power RF systems design.
- Considerable skills in accelerator facility upgrades and maintenance.
- Experience with complex relay logic circuits.
- Considerable expertise in electrical repairs, electrical design, and assembling electrical equipment from scratch
- Strong skills in advanced Electrical Engineering concepts, practices, standards, regulations, and procedures in order to leverage that knowledge to the design of components
- Considerable experience in accelerator operations.
- Ability to work in a team setting and oversee small groups of technicians and/or engineers.
- Skills in CAD.
- Skills in simulation and modeling.
- Ability to work on a flexible schedule. This position might require significant work outside normal hours, night shift (00:00-08:00) or evening shift (16:00-00:00).

The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (PT3 or PT4) depending upon depth and breadth of relevant knowledge, skills, and experience brought to the position. The requirements for the desired levels are as follows:
- PT3- Bachelor’s in engineering or related field and 4+years of experience or master’s degree in engineering or related field and 2+ years of experience
- PT4 - Bachelor’s and 6+ years, some occupations may require graduate degree and 4+ years
After initial training period shift work and weekends might be required. A regular schedule will be established for the employee.
