Team Manager - Health Physics

With safety as the overriding priority for the organization, visibly lead and enable a group of employees to be successful in the daily operation of an area. Plan and assign work, implement policies and procedures and recommend and implement improvement in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions that continuously improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, People and Cost of the department for which they are leading.

Your Day to Day:

  • Plan, organize, communicate and monitor department resources to achieve effective utilization of employees, equipment, and material consistent with safety, regulatory, quality, productivity and financial requirements through the use of Westinghouse Manufacturing Systems & Tools. Plan, Do, Act, Check (PDCA) on a regular schedule
  • Foster a safety and quality-conscious environment through the use and reinforcement of Human Performance and Nuclear Safety Culture traits and behaviors. Coach, train and hold employees accountable to demonstrate safe behavior in the workplace
  • Effectively set goals aligned with company objectives that drive organizational performance
  • Communicate effectively at all levels of the organization to ensure alignment
  • Uses systematic leadership tools to be effective in their role
  • Lead with safety. Assure compliance to safety, regulatory and quality requirements
  • Monitor area metrics to observe unfavorable trends through utilization of Visual Management and observations
  • Communicate discrepancies and solicit support as needed
  • Determine task performance/skill requirements. Evaluate employee skill levels through utilization of the training skills matrixes, focus training plans on deficiencies, and reinforce employee development and training. Ensure adequate depth of knowledge, workforce development and critical skills management throughout the organization. Create training plans to ensure critical skills gaps are addressed
  • Interpret area metrics and reports concerning activities of assigned department and develop plans to correct performance gaps
  • Through standardized huddle meetings, area learning clocks and visual management, communicate and reinforce goals and the performance of the area including any changes to policies, etc
  • Ensure clear roles and responsibilities along with effective training, tools, processes and procedures are implemented to meet desired performance expectations and clear accountability
  • Conduct performance evaluations and recommend pay increases, promotions, transfers, and other personnel actions. Interview job candidates and make hiring decisions to fill any open positions
  • Lead special project assignments and perform designated roles
  • Coach and mentor employees and peers
  • Quickly self-identify gaps at the lowest level and effectively resolve the issue to prevent reoccurrence
  • Identify and implement process/continuous improvements in assigned department. Maintain a long term vision focused on continually improving the safety, reliability and productivity of the plant
  • Applies some advanced skills to the position or specialization. Work with engineers and other to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment and techniques to meet the more complex requirements of the position
  • Identifies gaps in hourly/shift/daily productivity requirements and creates a mitigation plan to ensure that the impact to the business is minimized
  • Consistent application and reinforcement of Human Resources policies and practices and maintaining positive employee relations within the team
  • Create an environment of teamwork to maximize shared knowledge, provides support and promotes open communication

What you need to be successful in this role:

  • Associate degree in technical field with courses in engineering, math, physics and chemistry or the equivalent
  • Preferred bachelor’s degree
  • At least four years of manufacturing leadership or military leadership experience or
  • A bachelor’s degree in business or technical field preferred and five years of manufacturing experience.
  • Experience in health physics is preferred.
