Responsibilities

The Staff Research Associate
will develop new techniques and models to study targeting signal transduction
and metabolism in cancer. Collect, process and archive biological samples. Perform
molecular biology (DNA, RNA isolation, qPCR), biochemistry and cell culture
techniques. Independently analyze experimental results and maintain detailed
records of experiments. Design, perform, analyze, and troubleshoot imaging
experiments, including microPET/CT and bioluminescence. Assist with animal
handling, injections, tissue harvests, autopsies, and irradiation. Establish
and maintain patient-derived tumor xenograft library.

Additional duties
will include general lab maintenance responsibilities. Maintain inventory and
place orders for laboratory supplies/equipment. Arrange for periodic
maintenance of laboratory equipment. Perform periodic surveys for radioactive
contamination and hazardous chemicals contamination and file appropriate
reports. Maintain updated radiation safety, chemical safety records and review
and update ARCs, and IBC/Biosafety compliance. Make/maintain basic stock
solutions and buffers. Fulfill requests for plasmids, reagents, and animals
(mice) from outside institutions. Schedule radiation safety courses/exams and
DLAM courses/exams for new laboratory members. Train and supervise
undergraduate students. Initiate and maintain tools/software for effective
project management for research projects.

Qualifications

Required:* Demonstrated knowledge of basic genetics, molecular biology and biochemical principles. * Ability to use basic laboratory equipment, including centrifuge, pH meter, incubators, tissue culture hoods, PCR machines and electrophoresis apparatus. * Ability to ensure compliance with all laboratory safety protocols. * Demonstrated experience with animal handling, injections, tissue harvests, autopsies, and irradiation. * Ability to create and maintain records accurately. * Demonstrated computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. * Ability to communicate effectively to convey experimental results. * Ability to learn new methods and protocols and to adapt these to current laboratory situations. * Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse group of faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows and students. * Ability to train and supervise undergraduate students.
