Research Assistant
Responsibilities
The Cardiology Division is seeking to hire a Research Assistant to provide support to a team of PIs, postdocs, and PhD students and their research projects. Primary duties include:*Assist with mouse experiments, tissue harvesting, tissue sectioning, light microscopy, cell culture, immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy
*Perform enzymatic assays of lipids and perform flow cytometry studies
*Perform SDS-PAGE and western blotting
*Perform ELISA assays, immunocytochemistry studies, and enzyme activity assays with radioactive substrates
*Update animal protocols (with supervision), submit orders for animal purchases, and oversee the transfer of animals to-and-from UCLA
Qualifications*BS/BA in Molecular Biology or related field
*Minimum 2.5 years of basic biomedical research experience
*Experience in cell culture and cell transfections
*Experience in animal handling, specifically with mouse colonies
*Extensive experience with immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy
*Proficient in performing high-quality western blots and SDS-polyacrylamide gels
*Experience with ELISA immunoassays
*Experience using basic laboratory equipment (centrifuges, spectrophotometer, PCR machines, pH meter, balances, gel documentation) and experience with both PC and Apple computer
*systems and software programs (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
*General knowledge of chemistry and meticulous preparation of reagents
