Lab Assistant
Responsibilities
The Lab Assistant will prepare retinal tissue for histological analysis using specialized fixative conditions. The primary duties will be to dissect and prepare the retinas for anatomical connectivity studies using immunohistochemistry and confocal imaging, and analysis of immunostaining patterns using advanced morphological techniques. Additionally, the lab assistant will participate in the general running of the laboratory, including preparing standard solutions, ordering and maintaining lab supplies, antibodies and common stock reagents.
This is a full-time, 3 to 4 month limited position that may convert to career.
QualificationsBachelor of Science in Biology, Neuroscience, Physiological Sciences, or equivalent.
At least six months of electrophysiological research experience.
Skill in preparing media, buffers and chemical solutions.
Skill in preparing retinal tissue for investigations.
Ability to maintain a laboratory notebook with documentation of experiments and results.
Ability to follow a laboratory protocol. Proficiency in performing general lab maintenance.
Knowledge of regulations for proper animal care and euthanasia.
