Responsibilities

The department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking to hire a Hospital Laboratory Technician 3 (HLT 3) to join their Surgical Pathology team. Primary duties include:

*Serve as the liaison between the operating room and outpatient centers to troubleshoot specimens that are mislabeled or improperly submitted
*Specimen accessioning and labeling
*Capable of grossing moderate to high complex/complicated specimens under direct and indirect supervision, which skins, GI, and breast biopsy specimens
*Assist in the performance of frozen sections, including embedding, sectioning and staining
*Perform pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical activities
*Ensure all safety and quality assurance standards are met

Qualifications

Must meet all requirements as outlined in CLIA '88 requirements for high complexity testing personnel:

-An earned Associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training, OR
-Education/training equivalent to the above that includes at least 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution.

This education must include:

-24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR
-24 semester hours of science courses that includes 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination. In addition, the individual must have laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS (note that this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above), OR at least 3 months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.

Preferred Qualifications
*Experience processing a variety of biopsy specimen types, 1+ year prior experience
*Experience performing a high volume of frozen sections
*Experience accessioning surgical pathology specimens, 1+ year prior experience
*Skill in reagent preparation, quality control, and instrument maintenance records, etc
*Skill in performing related computer procedures (LIS, HIS)
