HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to support the Center for Rehabilitation Science Research (CRSR) located at Walter Reed Basic Science Laboratory at the Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to CRSR.

Responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in the laboratory of Dr. Luis Alvarez and Dr. Shailly Jariwala within the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Center for Rehabilitation Sciences Research. Pursues research along a focused line of inquiry and has a manuscript in development. Responsible for planning and conducting biomedical research and development in support of a portfolio of projects in regenerative medicine that includes neuro-regeneration, orthopaedic tissue repair, biomaterials design, 3D tissue engineering, and 3D bioprinting.

  1. Assists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing scientific research and/or development. (40%)
  2. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products. (5%)
  3. Performs specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which involves specialized procedures. (5%)
  4. Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments. (25%)
  5. Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals. (25%)

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of appropriate scientific area; ability to analyze and interpret data. CAD modeling and tissue engineering skills, 3D Tissue engineering, animal handling skills, rat handling experience preferred. Surgery experience.

Minimum Education: Doctoral degree required in Biomedical, Life science, Biomedical Engineering.

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: A minimum of 0-5 years of experience required.

Work Arrangement: 100% on-site.

Background/Security: Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier I investigation/Public Trust and a Common Access Card (CAC).
