Senior Director, Marketing - US Pain Business Unit
Job Description
Vertex is seeking a talented leader to join our US Pain Business Unit to support our journey to redefine the treatment of pain with the first new mechanism of action in decades. The Senior Director, US Pain Marketing will lead the Marketing team for the US Pain Business Unit, which is preparing for potential commercialization of an investigational novel selective inhibitor of NaV1.8 in acute pain. We are seeking a candidate that has a strong track record in US commercial roles, demonstrated success in leading and developing high performing teams, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovation-focused environment. This role report to the Vice President of the US Pain Business Unit.

Key Responsibilities
- Drives the evolution and implementation of an innovative go to market model, cross functionally leading the launch plan to execute against our aspirations of driving systemic interventions, best in class non-personal promotion, empowered patient awareness, and effective in person footprint
- Builds the marketing team, coaches team to deliver exceptional results and operate as a high performing team
- Leads the brand strategic and tactical plans including the annual planning process and related execution
- Leads team to create commercialization campaigns including compelling key messages, unbranded disease education and branded patient and HCP campaigns
- Seeks a deeper understanding of the market landscape through insight generation and Vertex’s position within the market, aims to shape the future of the acute pain market
- Drives innovative use of data and technology to deliver with agility, clear evaluation of ROI for all activities
- Defines performance goals and tracks performance against those goals as we prepare for launch, including leading the cross functional launch readiness team
- Provides input into forecasting assumptions, both short term and long term
- Maintains a high degree of external focus with significant customer and field team engagement
- Develops strong partnerships with cross-functional teams to support business goals
- Collaborates with communications review committee to approve materials for use with customers
- Manages agency partners and team to ensure on budget and timely deliverables
- Role models and instills a culture of compliance focused on ethics and integrity in all we do
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree
- 12+ years of educational/work experience in healthcare/biopharmaceuticals in marketing, consulting or agency in, or an equivalent combination of experience and education
- 5+ years of supervisory/management experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Skills
- Experience defining the strategy for a brand or portfolio of products, ability to oversee generation of insights, and apply those insights to business problems/opportunities
- Experience leading teams, coaching individuals and creating excellent team culture
- Analytical mindset, with ability to make strategic recommendations, monitor performance, and adjust
- Strong innovation skills, an entrepreneurial spirit and courage to challenge the status quo to develop innovative and focused approaches to enable launch through data and technology
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including executive presence and strong MS office skills
- Exceptional working knowledge of market forecasts and relationship of business drivers to revenue
- Comfortable working in a highly collaborative and results-driven environment within a growing business unit where we are concurrently learning & building as we drive towards product launch
- Demonstrated understanding of the legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements for pre- and post-approval activities and ability to model expected behavior for the team
- Travel Requirements: Ability to travel 20-30%
