Administrative Assistant I – Orthopedics & Rehabilitation

HJF is seeking an Administrative Assistant I located in the Military Performance Laboratory (MPL) with Department of Rehabilitation Medicine located at the Center for the Intrepid (CFI)/Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to BAMC.
The aim of the CFI is to provide state-of-the-art care for wounded Service members as they return to the highest levels of physical, psychological and emotional function. The MPL provides injured military members with the best technology available to precisely analyze and interpret movement dysfunctions. Personnel from the MPL conduct research to advance care for patients with extremity trauma (e.g. long bone fractures, limb salvage, amputation), develop advanced prosthetic and orthotic devices, provide clinical assessment services, and provide education and training in leading-edge care and rehabilitation. This is a full-time position that performs a wide range of administrative and clerical duties for the department and the Senior Scientist. Some general tasks include preparing reports, managing schedules, meeting minutes and correspondence; creating and editing documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Assists in managing schedules and arranging appointments and itineraries. Somewhat knowledgeable of business unit policies.

Responsibilities:
- Maintains department’s calendar and makes arrangements for meetings. (20%)
- Assists with initiating, organizing, completing department projects to include tracking of research lab output and coordinating requisite approvals. (20%)
- Prepares clerical and administrative functions such as setting up and maintaining department files, operating automated office equipment, and providing and maintaining department office supplies, travel paperwork for research staff. (20%)
- Performs typing assignments and proofreads work. (20%)
- Maintains and updates databases, spreadsheets, presentations, and reports as needed. (20%)
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc.; excellent communication skills; ability to type at least 60 words per minute, operate a word processor or computer, and effectively communicate with a diverse group of people
Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree preferred.
Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: Minimum 0-2 years of experience required.
Work Environment: This job takes place in a typical office setting.
Work Arrangement: This position is 100% on site and has no teleworking capability.
Background/Security: Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier I investigation/Public Trust and a Common Access Card (CAC).
