The primary responsibilities of the Director, Global Public Affairs, I&I IDM Region is to act as a strategic partner to the Commercial, Patient Health & Impact, and Medical Leaders, to promote a policy environment that will enable access to Pfizer’ Global Inflammation & Immunology portfolio in the International Developed Markets; to design and deliver structured public affairs and stakeholder engagement plans which support Global, Regional and Country prioritized objectives; to contribute toward increasing country colleague’s public affairs and stakeholder engagement capabilities, and to build Pfizer’s reputation through innovative and aligned external and internal strategies and projects.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a strategic Public Affairs Counsel to Global Commercial, Patient Health & Impact (PHI) and Medical Leaders for the Pfizer Inflammation & Immunology portfolio.

  • Monitor and provide insights on the effects of government policies, non-government organization/other stakeholder and competitor strategies on the I&I business, in the international developed markets (Europe & developed Asia).

  • Develop the Public Affairs strategies and tactics needed for the strategic and operating plans (including stakeholder engagement plans), and ensure that they are aligned to commercial priorities and integrated into regional / priority country commercial strategic and operating plans.

  • Lead Global Public Affairs efforts (stakeholder mapping, public policy scans, access and strategy development and execution) to prepare the regional and country environment for launch of new assets and indications.

  • Serve as the single point of contact (SPOC) for Corporate Affairs to the I&I IDM Regional President and I&I IDM Leadership Team.

  • Launch preparation/ policy activation planning and environmental shaping in Europe and developed Asia.

  • Identify strategic external opportunities and venues for appropriate Pfizer speakers, including Global and Regional Leaders, to deliver the company views on therapeutic area related public affairs and policy priorities.

  • Engage externally with advocacy organizations, professional organizations, think thanks, scientific associations and other influencers in support of key objectives.

  • Create/supervise development of tools to advance Public Affairs & Policy initiatives for education and advocacy purposes with Policymakers, Patient Advocates and other external groups.

  • Engage and coordinate colleagues from other Corporate Affairs groups, PHI, Medical, Regulatory and R&D to support PA strategy creation and execution, and ensure alignment on key issues.

  • Develop and execute training programs to educate/sustain Pfizer country colleagues on key priorities and objectives.

  • Develop and implement metrics to measure effectiveness and impact of key initiatives.

  • Ensure all activities/programs are in compliance with Pfizer policy and legal obligations.

  • Plan and manage a budget, and operate within established guidelines.

  • This is an individual contributor role.

  • Possible location: Brussels, Elsene. This position is not eligible to relocation.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires the integration of public affairs/government relations, alliance development, and business expertise to develop effective strategies that support Pfizer’s Global I&I priorities. The ideal candidate will possess experience in several of these areas with the capability of quickly acquiring knowledge in others. The position requires extensive interaction with colleagues from across Pfizer’s headquarters, regional and country locations.

  • B.A. / B.S. required

  • Years of experience: minimum 7 years in the pharmaceutical industry, another health care sector, public policy, communication, public affairs, or market access

  • Knowledge of health care policy and pharmaceutical industry, and understanding of business and regulatory environment required

  • A history of effective alliance building in complex environments

  • Understanding of commercial business and the ability to translate commercial needs into strategic public affairs and government relations plan that improve Pfizer’s operating environment

  • Strong capacity/proven track record for sharp strategic analysis and understanding, including incorporating alliance development, policy and public affairs components into the business analyses that support improved access and/or awareness of therapeutic areas and brands

  • Strategic thinker, able to tackle complex issues and develop innovative solutions resulting in winning partnerships

  • Demonstrated success in a matrix environment with particular emphasis on working across a Corporate Affairs organization

  • A history of strategic and tactical plan implementation that have netted results

  • Crisis and reputation management experience requested

  • Outstanding oral andwritten communication skills

  • Demonstrated track record of project management, organizational skills and attention to details

  • Advanced degree preferred

  • Experience in environment shaping and supporting category product launches is preferred

  • Experience working in / with IDM markets and understanding of international healthcare systems preferred

International travel requirement: up to 35%

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Work closely with many parts of the wider business including IDM Regional President, I&I IDM LT, Commerical colleagues across I&I business; coordinating with Communications, Global Public Affairs & Policy; International Developed Markets Public Affairs, Policy, EU Government Relations, EM Public Affairs, Medical, Regulatory, Legal, GH&V and R&D to ensure alignment across BU initiatives and issues, as appropriate. Engage with Key policymakers/stakeholders/customers
