What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world! In this vital role you will play a key role in Global Accounting Team. This role will primarily be responsible to provide complex account analyses and journal entries. Also, will interact with a wide range of leadership and staff across Amgen. The position will report to the Accounting Sr. Manager leader.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform and review complex journal entries, general ledger account analysis and reconciliation.

  • Prepare and review audit schedules and answer complex questions from internal and external auditors.

  • Preparation and review of complex tax schedules and analysis to support all local tax compliance and reporting related to entities doing business in PR and other ad hoc schedules.

  • Review accounting control functions and reporting requirements such as: Inventory balances, variances, pre-commercial, reserves, current and deferred taxes, and others.

  • Collaborate with process stakeholders to proactively determine and implement continuous improvement opportunities that will enable an efficient and effective accounting close process.

  • Engage in gaining knowledge and deploying automation and reporting solutions (e.g. UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Anaplan, Tableau, Alteryx, MS Teams, Smartsheet, Docu-sign) to reduce transactional work in favor of strategy and analysis.

  • Manage special projects for which Global Accounting representation is required, including company expansion, business acquisitions and divestitures, and financial system implementations.

  • Manage and lead the outsourced provider team

  • Consolidate and report site inventory balances by product/site and perform detailed monthly variance analysis.

  • Work closely with Tax team to perform the new enacted tax regulations, as applicable.

  • Calculate and record intercompany profit-in-inventory (PII) eliminations on transactions related to the inventories and IC sales.

  • Support quarterly SOX process certification by compiling, sampling and reviewing control documentation.

  • Participate in the annual standard costing process and ad hoc standard costing updates by the distribution sites.

  • Actively support Amgen key business initiatives that impact Cost Accounting processes

  • Perform all assigned monthly accounting close activities including variance analysis, balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries.

  • Interact with Amgen senior and mid-level management.

  • Exercise sound judgment, initiative, and strong internal controls focus in handling business issues of significance to Corporate Accounting.

  • Actively seek opportunities to streamline assigned processes and cross-train with peers.

  • Assist in project management activities and ad hoc analysis.

  • Business travel (5% to 10%).

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree

OR

Master’s degree and 2 years of Finance and/or Accounting experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of Finance and/or Accounting experience

OR

Associate’s degree and 10 years of Finance and/or Accounting experience

OR

High School Diploma/GED and 12 years of Finance and/or Accounting experience

Beyond that, additional preferred qualifications are:

  • Educational background in Finance, Accounting and/or Economics.

  • CPA Certification

  • Audit and public accounting experience.

  • Experience and knowledge in all Puerto Rico tax reporting requirements and compliance, in addition of cost accounting experience.

  • Strong computer skills and knowledge (Microsoft Office, Hyperion, SAP) with the ability to learn new applications.

  • Experience in driving and implementing operational improvements and changes.

  • Experience managing outsource partner relationship and financial system implementation.

  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.

  • Understanding and application of basic accounting principles including GAAP.

  • GMP regulated industry experience.

  • Cost accounting and performance analysis knowledge and experience.

  • Proficiency in English, both in written and oral communications.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Project management and planning skills.

  • Leadership, coaching, management, and delegation skills.
