Position Summary
GSK is seeking motivated and energetic Project Management Senior Director responsible for the integration of project research and development strategy in the global plan, the optimization of the project critical path, and enabling optimal and efficient execution.
In this position, as an experienced life sciences Senior Director, Pipeline Project Management Vaccines, you will work in close collaboration with the Vaccine Development Leader and will work with functional area partners to deliver robust, accelerated and fit for purpose plan, and oversee its execution.
As a Pipeline Project Manager, you will:
Bring Project Management technical expertise together with a deep understanding of drug or vaccine development to know how to integrate the plan and interrogate the assumptions.
Have a strong organization intelligence to understand how the company and the functions work, what are the interplays and how they all fit together, in order to understand and optimize the critical path.
Have a high matrix and innovative leaderships skills to create the conditions for matrix teams to think differently and expand the realm of possibilities.
Create a sense of urgency, and fosters the mindset ‘how fast can we deliver’, and work with the matrix team with the objective to have the best plan possible at all time.
You will be therefore a critical partner to the project leader, building a trusted partnership, acting as a thought partner or ‘right hand’ of the leader.
In this position you will report to the Head Pipeline Project Management for the therapeutic area of your project. Depending on your experience and the size and complexity of the project you manage, you may supervise other Project Managers.

Senior Director, Pipeline Project Manager
In this highly rewarding and visible role you will:
Work and input with the matrix project team in supporting the Project Leader to develop a compelling vision and strategy for the medicine or vaccine.
Play a critical role in translating the Target Medicine or Vaccine Profile into competitive plans for investment, and in bringing them to life.
Drive scenario planning and translate the options into timelines, budget and resource plan, including risks, with delineation of risk discharge at each inflection points (internal and external), highlighting the key assumptions, and the levers activated to accelerate the project.
Know additional risks and impact to cost/resources for each alternative and develop clear critical paths visualization to enable decision making.
Own the integrated development plan that connects in the most optimal way the activities which should be delivered to deliver the Target Medicine or Vaccine Profile.
Drive Acceleration: ensure to understand the functional plans that connect to the integrated plan, know the interplays, develop clear critical path and sub-critical paths highlighted at a level that enables the team to understand opportunities for acceleration and de-risking, with the mindset ‘How fast can we go vs. how do I meet the target’, being ambitious in challenging the team to meet competitive aspirations, pressure tests the assumptions and the proposals of the team, encourages thinking differently and smart risks taking, and works with the team to define what can be done and what we need to deliver faster. You will act as an independent challenger to the Project Leader and the team.
Manage the budget and resource plan.
During the execution, focus the team on the critical path and act as a real connector between the team members to remain ahead of everything and deliver a flawless execution. You will monitor and control the project progress and constantly look forward to anticipate what should done and how to keep accelerating.
Stay current with Project Management tools and methodologies in GSK and in the pharmaceutical industry and participate in processes improvements.
Continuously enhance personal understanding of drug/vaccine development and therapy area knowledge to enable contribution to Project strategy.
Job related Experience
This role requires a thorough knowledge and understanding of Project Management and Drugs/Vaccines Development processes. The PPM role is central in defining accelerated plan and this is only possible when you have that extensive knowledge and have already worked on several drugs/vaccines development plans across several phases of development.
Proven credibility with R&D leaders as well as Strategic Partners at executive level is required.
Basic Qualifications
Successfully completed Advanced degree in Life Science or related fields
Several years (15+) of experience in drugs and/or vaccines development, with experience across multiple assets (minimum 5 development projects managed in a large pharma and/or biotech)
Professional Project Management accreditation (PMP or equivalent)
Solid experience in using risks management as a tool to drive scenario planning and smart risk taking
Experience in applying Agile methodology and mindset
Robust understanding of CMC/product development, Clinical Development Plan and projects plan requirements, including filing expectations (FDA/EMA), Regulatory strategies and Submission plan
Extensive Matrix Leadership experience to strive for clear accountability on decision-making, and play their role in making quality, timely, data-driven decisions - managing risks whilst getting things done
Demonstrated managerial experience in leading a global project management function or equivalent tracked record in complex matrix teams’ management
Preferred Qualifications
Education qualification in PharmD or physician (M.D. or equivalent)
Pharmaceutical drug/vaccine development certification.
Knowledge and experience of managing small molecules, large molecules and vaccines, in oncology, specialty, primary cares medicines and immune disease High Emotional Intelligence with demonstrable ability to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.
R&D functional teams, seniority, and geography
Business and financial acumen. Demonstrated ability to act/think strategically and see “the big picture”
Passion for delivering medicines and vaccines to prevent and treat disease
