AI/ML Engineer II
Site Name: USA - Pennsylvania - Upper Providence
Posted Date: Mar 17 2023
At GSK, we are actively working on building a future in which Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) enable us to develop new therapies and personalised drugs that drive better outcomes for patients, at reduced cost, and with fewer side effects. It is an ambitious goal that requires the research and development of solutions at the cutting edge of AI/ML applied to the creation of transformational medicines for the patients we serve. If you would love to be part of making a difference, then consider joining us and applying for our AI/ML Engineer II position.
The Applied AI team works to develop tools, models and processes that enable our scientists to create preventative products, to discover ways to treat illnesses and to glean insights from a vast amount of data across multiple modalities. Our team fosters a culture of learning and collegiality. We have a broad portfolio which includes work in the field of computer vision, NLP, data science, machine learning and deep learning. Our Applied AI/ML Engineers empower research scientists with high dimensional computer vision analysis and with up-to-date NLP solutions such as large language models.
The AI/ML Engineer will apply established algorithms and novel solutions that are packaged into user-facing AI products that GSK scientists use in their day-to-day work to accelerate drug discovery. This is an opportunity to make high impact in examples that include improving the decision cycle time for our biopharmaceuticals using data-driven practices and accelerating assets in clinical trials through forecasting. As AI/ML Engineer II, you will:
Develop and deploy machine learning models and algorithms.
Preprocess large scale data to ensure data quality and model accuracy.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
Evaluate and select product-driven machine learning frameworks, libraries, and tools.
Review code, present technical solutions and contribute to our developing codebase with well-tested, production-ready code.
Continuously monitor and evaluate the performance of deployed models and make necessary adjustments with data at scale.
Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Mentor other engineers and contribute to AIML discourse at GSK and beyond.
Competitive candidates will have in-depth knowledge of machine learning with a track record of developing deep learning models for solving challenging real-world scientific problems. They should be comfortable with writing quality, well-documented, and well-tested code in the AI/ML space and operate in an agile environment.
Why you?
Basic Qualifications:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
MS degree in (Computational Sciences, Engineering, Data Science/ML, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or related scientific field) with 3+ years of relevant work experience or BS degree with 5+ years of work experience.
Experience in machine learning, software engineering, and Python.
Experience working in a collaborative CI/CD software development environment, including use of git.
Preferred Qualifications:
If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
PhD in (Computational Sciences, Engineering, Data Science/ML, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or related scientific field) with 2+ years of relevant work experience.
Track record of writing software in a collaborative team in industrial environments or open-source projects, applying practices in machine learning, software engineering, and/or production deployment of ML products.
Applied industry experience of modern ML architectures, statistic, and deep learning.
Experience shipping scientific products powered by machine learning.
Knowledge in disease biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry.

We’re combining the power of genetic and genomic insights into what causes disease, with the speed and scale of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) to make better predictions about who a treatment might work for, and why. We believe this powerful combination of data and technology holds the key to fundamentally transforming medical discovery for the better, improving R&D success rates and shaping how even the most challenging diseases, like neurological conditions and cancer, can be both prevented and treated.
In 2021 we delivered four major product approvals: Cabenuva for HIV, Jemperli for endometrial cancer, Xevudy for COVID-19 and Apretude, our new long-acting medicine for HIV prevention.
