The work schedule for this position is ­­­Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 7:00pm - 7:30am (Paid for 40 hours)

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist the supervisor with the day to day operations of the department
  • Direct and manage the daily workflow of specimens throughout the laboratory
  • Assist with training of new hires and development of current employees
  • Mentor other technologists by demonstrating a strong work ethic, providing constructive criticism, and responding to questions
  • Keep supervisor informed of group progress, problems, employee performance and any significant factors affecting assigned responsibilities
  • Alert supervisor immediately to any concerns/questions regarding sample and assay quality or integrity
  • Perform molecular-based procedures with a high degree of quality and in accordance with established protocols (i.e. Sanger Sequencing, Next Generation Sequencing, RT-PCR, Fragment Analysis, PCR, Gel Electrophoresis, MLPA)
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Participate in verification and validation studies for process improvements, new equipment, and new technology transfer
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements
  • Minimum 6 years of experience as a Medical Technologist
  • ASCP Certification is a plus
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience is preferred
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office
  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
  • High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills
  • Comfortability making decisions in a changing environment
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
