The Opportunity

Our location in Portland, Maine currently has an opportunity for a R&D Facilities Manager. This position will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, upgrades, and facility management of a newly renovated 50,000 SF R&D facility consisting of administrative space and various controlled environment lab spaces, including BSL 2 and/or 3 labs.

What You'll Work ON

  • Participate in construction and commissioning phase of the newly renovated R&D facility.

  • Identify and estimate needs for cleaning, repair, and preventive maintenance of building and building equipment; assess and recommend staffing and contractor services to meet needs; arrange for and monitor direct staff, contractors and vendors in performing building maintenance

  • Oversee and assist with IQ/OQ of GMP facility support equipment

  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation, cost effectiveness, consistency, quality, accuracy and performance to business standards within area of responsibility

  • Manage all janitorial services for the facility, including within GMP areas. Provide data to support facility is maintained to appropriate GMP requirements.

  • Respond to building management system (BMS) alarms to make sure all environments are running within specified temperatures and humidity.

  • Review and approve work orders and manage associated budget

  • Respond to facilities-related requests from team members, tracking requests and responses in an internal ticketing system.

  • Work closely with scientists to move or relocate equipment within labs.

  • Manage office moves and workstation modifications.

  • Maintain and manage all facility support infrastructure and vendors including but not limited to electricians, HVAC techs, pH system, vacuum system, generator, CO2, compressed air, etc.

  • Manage and oversee calibration and PM of R&D and GMP equipment.

  • Conduct and document regular facilities inspections.

  • Ensure building and grounds maintenance is performed per lease agreement.

  • Partner with EHS and Security teams to ensure security and emergency preparedness procedures are implemented properly.



  • BS in facility management, engineering or relevant field

  • 10 years experience with a broad knowledge of the facility management field AND/OR R & D Management responsibility for clean rooms, laboratories, and controlled environment spaces


  • Current or prior personnel management experience

  • Experience providing support to senior leader clients

  • Impeccable written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, while effectively prioritizing responsibilities and utilizing strong attention to detail

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills

  • Experience with ordering within a request/approval/procurement system; with knowledge of ERP systems preferred

  • Ability to remain flexible and organized in a fast-paced environment

  • Desire to speak up, ask questions, and present new ideas.
