The Opportunity

Daikin Comfort Technologies is seeking a professional, skilled Design Engineering Manager to join our engineering team to develop and sustain residential and/or commercial HVAC related products. The Design Engineering Manager main role is to Understand the customer requirements, specifications and works directly with internal customers, suppliers, and cross functional team members to meet voice of customers, internal design, quality and other program targets. Manages and coordinates all activities related to design, testing and development of residential and/or commercial HVAC related products. Daikin Texas Technology Park- has a footprint of 4.23 million square feet under a single roof, and is the third largest factory in the United States. Qualifications

Nature & Scope:

  • Ensures work is aligned with the Directors expectations, goals, and vision
  • Accountable for implementation of policies, processes, and procedures for short-term results
  • Decisions and problem-solving are guided by policies, procedures, and business plan
  • Works on difficult to moderately complex issues and projects
  • Provides guidance and training to subordinates
  • Level of signing authority established by company policy/guidelines

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Self-starter with ability to learn quickly and work independently under minimum direction and without day-to-day supervision to prioritize work to meet organization needs
  • Excellent experience working in a team environment within Design and other non-Design functional support groups
  • Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of mechanical design engineering theory and practice
  • Knowledge of refrigeration and/or air conditioning design and application
  • Technical understanding of vapor compression system, fluid mechanics, fans, blowers, compressors, TXVs, evaporator and condenser design/selection
  • Experience with design for six sigma (DFSS), design failure modes and effects analysis (DFMEA), design of experiments methodology, tolerance analysis, value engineering principles, and parts standardization principles
  • Good understanding of system electrical & controls
  • Knowledge of specifications and international standards used in the Global HVAC industry
  • Experience working in the regulatory environment and aware of the standards- AHRI, ASHRAE, UL.
  • Working knowledge with computer simulations and CAD systems
  • Proficient software skills including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project
  • Demonstrated capability of leading a team of engineers to complete projects on time, and meeting cost and quality objectives
  • Strong and Effective Project Management skills; effective Organizational and Time management skills
  • Excellent Analytical and Problem-Solving skills
  • Strong Communication and Collaboration skills; Team player and establish positive working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Ability to apply good judgement, strong work ethics and integrity on the job

Experience:

  • 12+ years of HVAC industry related experience with product design, development, and launch
  • 8+ plus years of experience with product design in the automotive, appliance, or HVAC industry (preferred)
  • 8+ plus years in leadership role

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or Technology Engineering
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt certification preferred
  • Project Management certification - preferred
