Under the direction of the General Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for effective management and coordination of the Oakland Plant operations and production activities, including logistics/warehouse, while ensuring good product quality and a safety culture that promotes safe work practices and is environmentally compliant. This position will be a contributing team member to our overall strategy to be an industry-leading architectural solutions design-manufacturer providing technology-driven fabrication solutions to produce cutting-edge ceiling, wall and building facade systems as well as a range of custom designed installations and projects for some of the world's leading architects and designers.

The incumbent must (1) drive the Operations Team forward by providing the leadership to safely deliver productivity results which meet Oakland Plant goals and objectives and align with the overall Architectural Specialties (AS) business needs; (2) guide the team through the use of the continuous improvement model; (3) deliver a high level of customer satisfaction by ensuring that the team executes the strategy of having a high level of on-time delivery and improved lead times; (4) promote open dialogue with key functional teams within Oakland Plant that have direct communication with our customers; (5) be quick to make decisions; and (6) collaborate with fellow Oakland Plant departments on proper communication of customer expectations as it relates to some of work flow systems, such as estimating/quoting and project management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Implements and promotes the Plant Safety Process by leading the process and maintaining a high-level awareness and operating discipline for all plant safety policies.
  • Manages own organization; guides and advises supervisors in interpretation of company policies. Helps resolve non-routine personnel problems.
  • Maintains quality performance through use of Oakland Plant quality systems management and LEAN principles.
  • Maintains high level of customer awareness throughout the Operations Team and focuses on delivering material that meets requirements.
  • Owns setting the staffing requirements with direct reports that are needed to meet production schedules and meet the plant’s cost initiatives. Recommending a labor strategy that includes full time or temporary workers to complete projects that meet our customer’s requirements.
  • Oversees staffing and new employee onboarding. Works with HR and Production Supervisors to provide general departmental onboarding and ensure proper training. Assists Supervisors and leads with job training process.
  • Works to promote good employee relations by interacting with employees frequently and discussing and helping with problems or complaints. Encourages supervisors and leads to establish and maintain similar relationships to drive ownership at the correct level.
  • Promotes achievement of Production’s goals and maintains participation from Operations, Maintenance, and Logistics. Participates in and supports the LEAN process on the shop floor.
  • Provides training of employees, promotes continuous skill improvement, and provides supervisor developmental training.
  • Provides for and promotes participative management and employee involvement through frequent employee meetings for communication and problem-solving, training, recognition, information sharing and interpretation and delegation of authority and responsibility.
  • Promotes excellence in housekeeping; establishes LEAN events (5S) to reduce waste and cost to maintain housekeeping.
  • Creates and manages a maintenance program for all Production and Business operations equipment.
  • Recommends and manages implementation of LEAN events related to safety, process effectiveness and cost.
  • Continually provides assessments and feedback of supervisors and technical support resources performance.
  • Implements the elements of Moz’s overall strategic plans to drive growth, NPD, budgeted costs, and continuous improvements while partnering with all departments.
  • Sets clear duties, responsibilities, objectives, and accountability for all Production teams including supervisors, team leads and operators, providing ongoing feedback and evaluating their performance.
  • Works closely with other members of the Management Team as a contributing member; communicating Operations’ performance to targets and goals relating to head count, budgets, production schedule, operating plan, productivity improvement activities and opportunities.
  • Develops and executes a sustainable job costing data tracking system to ensure that our cost and estimating models have the most accurate information to drive optimal margins with correct direct cost assumptions.
  • Approves production organization size and structure to meet demand and promote knowledge base sharing.
  • Promotes and maintains positive employee relations to ensure a collaborative working relationship between functional management teams.

  • Highly effective analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excels in a team environment.

Compensation: The estimated base salary range for this role is $120,000 to $150,000 per year. Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience and other relevant factors

Plant Environment – This position operates in a manufacturing setting and can be subject to extreme cold and hot temperatures; uneven walking surfaces with cords, tools, and other obstacles; intermittent loud noises; and dusty or dirty conditions. Required PPE includes hard hat (when required), safety glasses, earplugs, steel toe/composite boots, and fall protection.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ direct management experience.
  • Experience with quality management systems.
  • Experience with the development of new products.
  • Demonstrated experience and results in leading organizations through change.
  • Experience in metal manufacturing processes preferred, but not required. (CNC, Press Brake, Lathe, Milling, Welding, and Machining)

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • LEAN and/or Six Sigma certification preferred.
