As an Accessibility Engineer, you’ll be embedded with a team of developers, designers and product owners and that team is altogether responsible for creating industry-best accessible experiences for Walgreens customers. This includes the creation of entirely new experiences, as well as improvement to existing ones. You’ll be well-positioned to make a major impact working on a friendly and high-performing team operating within fast growing Walgreens Digital team.

In this role you will use assistive technologies to test all experiences for accessibility gaps prior to them going live. You will be working on cutting edge digital experiences and will have the opportunity to be a part of crafting the future of accessibility. Your work is critical in driving inclusivity for all Walgreens customers and employees. You will be involved in the full product development cycle, providing accessibility expertise during the design, development and testing phases.

Your input will be very important for providing final sign off prior to the experience being launched. You’ll use your WCAG expertise to guide your partners in the design and development of innovative and accessible digital experiences. You’ll do this by experimenting and collaborating, through product.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Solid skills in understanding WCAG 2.1 and working in an agile environment with developers, designers and product managers in applying requirements to create accessible experiences.
  • Experience performing accessibility testing of web and app experiences with assistive technology, including keyboards and screen readers
  • Help triage and prioritize accessibility issues and provide guidance for remediation.
  • Comfort operating with flexibility in your approach in order to deliver results in a fast paced, constantly changing and highly ambiguous work environment.
  • Have a passion for continuously improving digital experiences for people with disabilities.
  • Partner with members of our Product teams to ensure proper accessibility representation and communication to customers and partners
  • Help with defining quarterly audit plans for audits conducted by external partners, review and interpret their findings and work with development to remediate the issues.
  • Identify gaps in existing business processes and tools used to create accessible resources and advise on solutions to fill these gaps.

Basic Qualifications

  • BA or BS and 4 years of experience or High School/GED with 7 years of experience
  • 3+ years hands on Accessibility testing experience
  • Strong knowledge of the following languages: HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, WAI-ARIA,
  • Assistive Technology Tools: JAWS, NVDA, TalkBack, VoiceOver, switch device, ZoomText, Dragon Naturally Speaking.
  • Strong knowledge of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 and section 508 with the ability to independently classify issues based on SC
  • Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional work teams toward task completion
  • Showcase a desire to learn and grow

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
  • Certifications: IAAP Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC), Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS), Certified as a DHS Section 508 Trusted Tester Version 5 (TTV5).
  • Experience advising on capabilities and limitations of technology designed to create accessible instructional resources.
  • Interest or experience in working with UX Design, UX research, Engineering or Product is a plus
  • Experience with facilitation or implementation of ‘accessibility unit/functional tests’ as part of a CI pipeline.
  • Experience with modern toolsets like Axe etc.
  • Identify gaps in existing business processes and tools used to create accessible resources and advise on solutions to fill these gaps.
