Job Description

General Summary:

The Manufacturing Data and Analytics Architect will be a key technical resource for manufacturing data and analytics applications developed in support of both internal manufacturing and external contract manufacturing partnerships at late-stage development, clinical & commercial manufacturing stages of the product lifecycle.

This role will partner with business leadership to develop capabilities and systems roadmaps that align to support business strategy, architecting modern, scalable, and innovative solutions that enable efficient data driven insights for the business.

Major activities include providing direction to the teams implementing manufacturing data platforms, integrating shop floor manufacturing systems, at line benchtop equipment, CMO data and other manufacturing related technology platforms (ERP, CMMS, LIMS, Finite Scheduling, data lake/warehouse/catalog, analytics, reporting, visualization, AI/ML, etc.).

Other major activities include building capabilities and defining approaches for process modeling and normalization of manufacturing data sets, collaborating with suppliers, system integrators, Vertex technical and project teams to identify, design and implement technical solutions and system components.

In operational mode the incumbent will manage day-to-day operational IT service management and ensure maintenance of reliable, scalable, and compliant systems that easily meet business needs by efficient delivery and enhancements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Become a trusted partner of the business leaders within their remit, understand their needs and vision, and deliver technology solutions to support and enable their goals and objectives

  • Engage as a key participant in the strategic business planning process for their business partners

  • Provide insights on how technology can improve business processes to enable operating efficiencies and support the achievement of business goals and objectives.

  • Articulate and maintain a technology strategy to support and advance the business' objective. This strategy should factor in an understanding of future directions of the business area, as well as changes in the technology landscape.

  • Execute the technology strategy by leading the evaluation, selection, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of technology solutions.

  • Work with external suppliers/integrators, internal technical experts, and project teams to design, develop and / or configure the manufacturing data applications / service.

  • Lead the technical design, configuration, and documentation for the data historian implementations, ensuring data contextualization and readiness for integration with collaborating manufacturing systems

  • Support the technical integration of the data historian with process equipment, benchtop analyzers, and enterprise systems such as ERP, LIMS, Finite Scheduling, QMS, CMMS, DMS data lake, analytics, including CMO data sets

  • Work closely with DTE Compliance, Internal Audit, and Quality Assurance groups as needed to ensure compliance with all appropriate regulations, as well as our DTE system lifecycle and change management requirements

  • Ensure that the design and implementation of the service is consistent and supportive of the Vertex security architecture, data integrity and data protection standards based on documented requirements and identified technical, compliance and business risks

  • Ensure requirements and technical specifications are documented in the appropriate SLC deliverables and / or CMDB

  • Participate in the computer system validation (CSV) planning and execution of the solutions, authoring and / or contributing to key CSV deliverables

  • Participate in the assessment, approval, and implementation of changes according to Vertex change management processes and procedures

  • Lead the assessment, investigation, resolution, status / KPI reporting of Incidents for the service / system

  • Lead and coordinate the definition, documentation and testing of the application and data recovery plan

  • Develop and maintain a long term life cycle plan for the ongoing maintenance and management of systems

  • Manage relationships with our strategic software vendors and service providers

  • Establish, track and report on project value drivers and financial impact

  • Build and develop a team of Vertex employees, as well as potentially overseeing managed services providers

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in technology discipline or equivalent

  • Typically requires 9 years relevant business systems in the Life Sciences industry, or the equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience with specifying, designing, implementing, and documenting data historian and manufacturing data platforms, upgrades, enhancements, and operational support procedures

  • Demonstrated understanding of manufacturing business processes such as order management, material management, genealogy, track and trace, production batch record, historization of process data with asset and event contextualization in a regulated environment

  • Experience in leveraging data driven approaches for optimization, investigations, and operational excellence initiatives in manufacturing

  • Demonstrated ability to understand, analyze, execute, and document complex technical designs, translate business needs and functional requirements into technical solutions

  • Self-directed individual able to work independently and collaboratively in matrixed team environment, lead technical DTE team members to complete assigned workstream tasks in a timely manner with expected level of quality

  • Experience interfacing process equipment and benchtop instruments used in manufacturing areas

  • Experience installing, configuring, and administering application and database services

  • In-depth and specialized knowledge in the core disciplines of project management, business analysis, solution design, delivery, and training

  • Significant experience in building productive partnerships with business stakeholders and influencing them to take action

  • In-depth and specialized understanding of the business, processes, and any appropriate regulatory environments

  • Results oriented manager with a proven track record of on-time project delivery for large, complex projects with global stakeholders

  • Written and verbal communication skills and ability to present in a clear and concise manner to all audiences

  • Exceptional analytical, quantitative, problem-solving, and prioritization skills, including the development of business cases/ value propositions

  • Substantial program/ project management, demand management, resource management and system life cycle expertise

  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities including development of business case / value propositions

  • Proven capabilities in people management and building high-performing teams

  • Prior experience with running IT managed services or outsourced/ offshore teams

  • Superior MS Office skills, including MS Project & Visio, Excel, and PowerPoint Experience

  • Experience in Agile methodology

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills
