Job Summary

As a software engineering manager in Comcast’s Time Shifted Video Engineering Group, you will help to shape the future of our cloud-based, highly scalable DVR service. You will lead the core team that develops the software that handles recordings and playbacks for millions of customers and supports Instant VOD, and that develops tools to operate this large-scale system at low cost.Job Description
Who will you work with?
Time Shifted Video software engineers collaborate with industry experts from many subject areas: software architects, network engineers, big data scientists, player developers, content security specialists, and various streaming video technologists. We deliver software solutions at the groundbreaking of distributed systems and streaming video technology.
What are some exciting problems you’ll be working on?
The core product this team is responsible for is Comcast’s cloud DVR system (cDVR) that we developed from the ground up. It is a large-scale system that supports millions of customers, allowing them to record their favorite TV shows in the cloud, which enables them to watch their recordings from any device, at any time, and anywhere with an Internet connection. You will help to develop new features and improve existing software to improve reliability and reduce operating costs of this system. Your work will make a noticeable impact on the rapidly growing IP video industry and millions of customers’ experience.

What You'll Do:
Provides mentorship to the Software Engineering team and other departments in identifying product and technical requirements. Serves as primary point of contact and liaison between Software Engineering and other teams.
Advises implementation initiatives for new software products and applications. Coordinates the roll-out of changes to avoid disruption to customers.
Manages all the deliverables to ensure alignment to deadlines, specifications and budgets. Implements performance metrics and prepares periodic reports and/or proposals. Monitors and tracks project progress and reports findings to the leadership team.
Ensures all engineers keep current with technological developments within the industry. Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products.
Provides leadership and direction to team members and meets with them regularly and individually to support their growth and development and resolve concerns.
Manages cross-project communications.
Consistently exercises independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
Supports an Engineering culture where innovation is balanced with predictable delivery and operational excellence.
What You'll Need:
Experience leading software engineering teams
BS in Computer Science and 10+ years’ experience, or equivalent; MS in Computer Science or management and leadership is a huge plus
Experience in programming languages such as Java and C/C++. Experience with Go (Golang) helpful
Experience developing software for Networking, Web services, HTTP, and TCP/IP
Understanding of RESTful design principals
Experience developing multi-threaded and high-performance software
Knowledge of Object-Oriented Design, Design patterns, and Algorithms
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is a plus
Able to analyze and clearly articulate complex issues and technologies understandably and engagingly
Great design and problem-solving skills, with a strong bias for architecting at scale
Strong troubleshooting skills, adaptable, proactive and willing to take ownership
Experience building distributed applications based on a micro-service architecture
Experience in all phases of the software development lifecycle from defining requirements, design, and development to test and release
Familiar with Agile development models and successfully putting Agile practices into place
Proven track record of driving large projects both strategically and tactically, and eager to tackle new, ambiguous projects
Familiar with the DevOps culture
Familiar with industry standard logging, monitoring, triaging tools and best practices
A passion for improving development and operation efficiency through automation
A strong sense of ownership and initiative, and a love of learning and adapting to new technologies

Salary:
Pay Range: $145,707.65 - $218,561.48
Comcast intends to offer the selected candidate base pay within this range, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience.
