R&D Power Electronics Hardware Engineer (2023)
Position: R&DPower Electronics Hardware Engineer
We are looking for a highly self-motivated individual who is ready to take on a technology development and innovation role. The candidate should possess good attention to detail, good mentorship ability, be creative, and possess good time management skills. This position is for research and development, including design, modeling, simulation, layout, analysis, and verification, of hardware circuits for electric drive systems. This position allows the candidate to assist in advancing the electrical hardware technology roadmap that supports both the existing Nexteer product line and enables expansion for next generation products. The candidate will also be responsible for coordinating cross-functional projects with multiple technical groups within the organization and enforcing the technology development process for various projects from research through production.
The ideal candidate would possess strong technical skills that encompass multiple disciplines including familiarity with power electronics, circuit board layout and manufacturing, circuit analysis and simulation, integration of both high voltage and low voltage circuits, and experimental circuit debug and diagnosis.
Description:
- Developing electrical circuit and hardware designs based on written and verbal requirements.
- Performing board layout design for complicated switching circuits and other embedded circuits.
- Creating electrical designs that minimize package space and footprint.
- Hands-on construction, testing and debug of new electrical hardware to demonstrate and evaluate new technologies for both bench level and vehicle level systems.
- Developing test plans, validation setup and verification criteria for electrical components and circuits.
- Research, Identify, Size and Analyze various electrical components for projects incorporating various motion control applications.
- Leading, participating and supporting design reviews and DFMEA activities for electrical hardware development.
- Documenting processes for modelling, design, sizing, selection and analysis of electrical circuits.
- Collaborating and leading the cross functional technology development activities related to electrical hardware employed in motion control applications.
- Interface with suppliers to understand latest commercially available electrical hardware products and components.
Job Requirements:
- Strong understanding of electronic circuit principles, design, debug, schematics, and analysis.
- Strong understanding of power electronics converter topologies (AC-DC, DC-DC, DC-AC) and power electronics theory.
- Experience with various power semiconductor switches (MOSFETs, IGBTs, SiCs etc) and their layout strategies.
- Must have knowledge of common electrical hardware gate drive circuits and design.
- Must be familiar with ECU construction methods and techniques to reduce package size and minimize power loss.
- Understanding and experience resolving EMI/EMC issues with the board designs.
- Experience with simulation tools for circuit analysis (PSPICE etc)
- Must be familiar with lab test equipment such as oscilloscopes and power supplies.
- Must have excellent problem solving and debug skills
- Proficient with Microsoft office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio).
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others.
- Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to look at computer screen/monitor for extended periods of time.
Preferred:
- Strong experience with PCB layout techniques
- Experience with electrical hardware cooling methods and techniques.
- Working experience in a high voltage lab environment
- Working knowledge of CAN serial communications, including vehicle messaging and diagnostic service implementations
- Experience with LabView and MATLAB/Simulink
Education and Experience:
Master’s in Electrical Engineering or
Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering with 5 years of professional experience
