Backend Software Engineer

Job Description

BAE Systems is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to support our Advanced Analytics Lab (AAL) IRAD Projects and active customer contracts. This individual will develop procedures and policies for data management for key strategic projects and ongoing programs across BAE Systems. Functions of this role include:

• Design, develop, and modify data storage, transport, and visualization digital infrastructure to accelerate the process of data analysis and reporting

• Maintain data management lifecycle and instructions for operating complex systems

• Oversee integration of new technologies and initiatives into data standards and structures

• Evaluate the design, selection, and implementation of database changes by comparing them with business requirements and design documents

• Assess system performance and make recommendations for hardware, software, and data storage improvements

• Perform data extraction and manipulation of data sets

• Create static and dynamic data visualization graphics for customer and senior leadership briefings/reports

• Review presentations, manuscripts, graphs, and tables to ensure accuracy and quality

• Customer engagement at both onsite and at trade conferences to evaluate customer needs and technology solutions to accomplish those needs

• Effectively communicate and demonstrate technical capabilities of the AAL to customers, internal executive leadership, and partners

• Represent BAE Systems at conference engagements to engage with customers and partners in technical capability discussions

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

Hardskills:

• Work Professional Experience with Python or Go or Java

• Experience evaluating data sources from Publicaly Available Information (PAI)

• Experience Creating, and maintaining RESTful APIs utilizing Flask or Django

• Exposure and comfort in learning new data storage technologies and integrating new data sources into existing systems

Soft Skills:

• Knowledge and exploitation of open source data to include social media, foreign social media, deep & dark web, and commercial imagery

• Data analysis of structured and unstructured data stored in cloud and physical platforms

• Team player with excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and verbal and written communication skills

• Working with customers across the DoD and IC

• Superior analytical and problem solving skills

• Ability to present technical information to audiences of varying levels of expertise

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

• High School Diploma + 8 years relevant experience OR

• Associate's Degree + 6 years relevant experience OR

• Bachelor's Degree+ 4 years relevant experience

Required Experience includes:

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

Prefer hands on experience with technology, data processing, analysis, and transformation to include some or all of the following areas:

• Cloud technologies such as AWS and Azure

• Familiarity with web 3.0 concepts like VR and Blockchain

• Data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI

• Integrating of disparate datasets into a data lake within AWS

• Using GitHub, Jira, Confluence, and other project management tools

• Ability learn new programming languages/software programs

• Past experience presenting analytic results to large groups at conferences
