Applied Physicist - MSD
The Materials Science Division (MSD) at Argonne National Lab (ANL) is looking for candidates to fill an applied physics scientist position. As part of a scientific team, the incumbent will participate in ongoing research, development, maintenance, and operation of hardware, software, systems, and platforms.
A successful candidate will have demonstrated experience with Python programming, Linux-based platforms, software and hardware revision control and tracking techniques, analyte detection, signature processing, and time sequence correlations.
Position Requirements
Demonstrated ability to conduct work, including experiments, both independently and as part of a team
Knowledge and experience with scientific software development
Python programming experience
Experience with Linux-based (specifically Raspberry PI) platforms
Ability to construct systems and fix systems in the field
Knowledge and experience with software and hardware revision control and tracking techniques
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Effective verbal and written communication skills including the ability to interact well with external collaborators and contribute to written technical reports and presentations
Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
A good mechanical proficiency is advantageous
CAD experience is advantageous
Experience using the R platform is advantageous
Experience with data analysis and statistical methods is desired
Applicant must be a U.S. citizen who can obtain a Q clearance
Must be willing to travel to support field efforts
MS in applied physics, radiation physics, or nuclear engineering and 3+ years of experience
