The Role at a Glance

As a Product Development Consultant for our Annuity Solutions business, you will consult/analyze and deliver on more complex assignments/projects in many aspects of the product development activities for the business line or functional area. You will also act as a resource to applicable internal/external stakeholders and requires someone who can interact comfortably across the organization and externally.

What you'll be doing

  • Delivering on more complex assignments and projects in support of product development and implementation in the launch of new products/riders/services for the business line.
  • Presenting options and tradeoffs under consideration in new product development and gathering input on new product development ideas.
  • Identifying different or diverse markets to enhance market reach.
  • Supporting business management issues for assigned area(s) as they arise and applying a seasoned business judgment weighing the impact on product profitability, distribution relationships, legal and regulatory issues, and administrative capabilities in decisions.
  • Developing an understanding of the market, customer needs, the competition and the strengths and gaps in the current product portfolio.
  • Evaluating trends in data or information. Recognizing opportunities or potential problems, before they become obvious, by seeking input from a range of sources, including insights beyond own area of responsibility.
  • Providing technical product knowledge and driving decisions during system requirement sessions and operational meetings.
  • Providing technical input to and review of marketing materials, contract, and prospectus language.
  • Responding efficiently to roadblocks, remaining dedicated to achieving team and departmental goals.
  • Proactively anticipating, preparing for, and taking action on future business-related opportunities.

What we’re looking for


  • 3-5 years of experience with insurance product development and implementation that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities of the position.
  • 1-3 years of experience with insurance product management
  • Undergraduate Degree or 4+ years of comparable work experience
  • Confident, comfortable communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to think and respond immediately with confidence. Effectively facilitate complex and/or contentious discussions.
  • Well-rounded analytical and computer skills.
  • Strong finance and investment knowledge.
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory environment impacting insurance companies and taxation of business line products.
  • Strong knowledge of business line products, with appreciation for and understanding of distribution, product, marketing, marketplace competition, pricing and valuation issues.
  • Acts as a catalyst for new ideas by initiating brainstorming and problem-solving discussions. Apply knowledge (e.g., market, industry, products, services, technology) to identify opportunities for change.
  • Demonstrates ability to identify and recommend process improvements.


  • Prior experience or knowledge of life insurance and/or annuities preferred.

Pay Range: $65,700 - $118,300

Actual base pay could vary based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln’s total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual. Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln’s standard benefits package.
