The Opportunity

  • This position works out of our Columbus, OH location in the Nutrition Division.

Main Purpose of the Role

  • Responsible for developing and implementing risk assessment and testing programs to assure the safety and compliance of Abbott Nutrition products and protect brand reputation by managing potential chemical hazards in food.
  • Responsible for management of direct reports and guiding through career development and program ownership.
  • Accountability for growing and developing high performing team members.
  • Accountability includes acting as key coordination interface with internal cross functional partners such as Regulatory, Quality Assurance, Medical Safety, and Public Affairs for identification, monitoring and mitigation of potential chemical food safety hazards.
  • Maintains awareness of food industry practices, analytical innovation, monitoring data, regulatory developments and emerging food safety issues to continually improve risk assessment and food safety programs.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Management of direct reports and guiding through career development and program ownership.
  • Interact across functions to assess and develop strategies to address potential food safety issues.
  • Leverage historical data, internal knowledge and supplier information to develop risk management strategies aligned with Abbott quality practices.
  • Collaborate with technical staff and external testing laboratories to assure suitability and reliability of analytical methods to meet compliance and food safety requirements.
  • Works with other cultures in a collaborative, fast paced goal-driven global environment.
  • Negotiate and reconcile interdisciplinary objectives while optimizing overall organizational goals.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, YOU’LL BRING

  • Minimum of an advanced degree, preferably B.S., and/or 8-10 years of experience working in the food science and/or quality industry.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse and fast-paced changing business environment.
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results.
  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
  • Multi-tasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills and ability to hold others accountable.

MISC:

  • Ability to travel approximately 10%.
