It is a great time to join our GSK WREF (Worldwide Real Estate & Facilities) team. Reporting to the Head of Facilities and Engineering at the Upper Providence campus, the site Mechanical Engineer will help us to drive performance and maintain compliance in engineering and operations to support the business and help improve lives of patients and consumers around the world.

You will provide ongoing facilities and engineering support to our local WREF Operations team and will be responsible for safe and compliant delivery of facility services, facility infrastructure, and utility systems, in addition to supporting capital projects delivery. The role will need to partner closely with local site operations teams, 3rd party service partner teams, EHS teams and WREF Centers of Excellence (COEs) to ensure a consistent approach is taken with respect to internal Engineering Standards and local external statutory requirements.

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following…

  • Support implementation of engineering standards and process improvement initiatives into site delivery teams. Identify and implement areas for engineering & EHS risk reduction, environmental sustainability, and energy reduction.
  • Build relationships with our contracted Service Partners who run facility services on site and verify their performance meets established Critical and Key Performance Indicators
  • Build relationships with key R&D stakeholders and partner to identify, evaluate and resolve business driven variations to service delivery.
  • Monitor the Zero Preventable Disruption (ZPD) program to ensure robust root cause analyses are conducted on all high-risk incidents
  • Implement improvements, design changes or modifications to automation/mechanical systems, equipment, or procedures to support the business in following established change control process
  • Lead investigations and mitigation plans at the site for significant service failures, critical/major audit findings, dispute resolution and process improvements.
  • Partner with our contracted Service Partners to understand site facilities and utilities development needs and ensure this informs the capital plan.
  • Conduct self-inspections of third-party contractor work being conducted on site to ensure compliance with national, local and GSK standards.
  • Support GSK’s Statutory Duty Holder Framework in WREF as the GSK SME or Responsible Person specializing in one or more of these High Severity Risks: Pressure Systems (steam boilers); Hazardous utility systems; Cooling Towers & domestic water systems (legionella); Fixed & mobile lifting systems
  • Implement remediation plans from policy gap assessments. Raise risks and/or conflicts with local customer’s ways of working.
  • Technical engineering representative on capital projects to ensure projects are designed and delivered in accordance with external and internal GSK engineering/EHS standards.
  • Maintain ethics and compliance values even when potential risk exists.
  • Lead “ad-hoc” business projects as the need arises

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • 4+ years operational engineering experience in the management of complex facilities support services to a large office or pharmaceutical facility
  • Experience with the operation and maintenance of large mechanical infrastructure equipment (HVAC, boilers, chillers)
  • Experience with commissioning and design reviews in capital projects
  • Experience in Lean Sigma/OE/ADP techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Master’s degree in engineering
  • Knowledge of the Research & Development process and understands GxP requirements
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with key external contract partners, to deliver appropriate site services in agreement with established contracts
  • Able to demonstrate extensive competence in the operational engineering field.
  • Detailed understanding of statutory legislation responsibilities in a technically complex environment.
  • Acts as a role model for applying standards to ensure compliance.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction.
  • Chartered Engineer status in a relevant engineering discipline.
