Associate Principal Scientist
Job Description
The Quantitative Biosciences, Boston department is seeking a highly motivated, talented, and experienced In-Vitro Associate Principal Scientist to join our High Content Imaging (HCI) group. The preferred candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of High Content Imaging and multiparametric assays using Cell painting, 3D imaging, live cell imaging platforms and computational algorithms to analyses images and interrogate multiparametric multiplex data.
The applicant will be executing on large scale experimentation protocols using pharmacological and genetic manipulation of cellular targets and pathways to characterize the molecular mode of action of small molecules and biologics. The candidate is expected to work independently and to proactively collaborate with colleagues in Quantitative Biosciences, IT, and across disciplines. Advanced oral and written communication skills are a must.
The specific responsibilities of the candidate include but are not limited to:
Design, develop and execute on multiparametric high-content cell-based assays in support of project assays and to define target engagement, functional responses, mechanisms of action and biomarkers for small molecules and bio-therapeutic agents of interest.
Conduct the computational analysis of high-content multiparametric readouts using a variety of approaches to analysis utilizing commercial and internal software solutions.
Work in collaboration with the data analytic groups to build reliable strategies for multiparametric data analysis and data integration.
Participate in core teams, present results and ideas and provide scientific reports/ deliverables to research projects in multiple disease areas
Properly document and report the experimental findings and provide scientific reports to the manager and team members.
Work collaboratively within the QB department, IT, and across functional teams to support of research projects/programs at different discovery stages.
Education Minimum Requirement: BS degree with 12+ years or MS degree with 8+ years or PhD degree with 4+ years
Required Experience and Skills
Understands the drug discovery process and has significant experience in applications of high content imaging in support of drug discovery and target identification
In-depth knowledge and practical expertise with High Content Imaging technologies in assay development and troubleshooting
Hands-on experience with multiparametric high content imaging data analysis using software solutions such as PE Columbus, Image J, Cellomics Bioapp, Methaexpress, CellProfiler ets.
Experience in statistical analysis of multiparametric high content and high throughput experiments
Familiarity with the latest cell-based high throughput automated technologies.
Ability to provide efficient technical support for imaging instrumentation, analysis applications and associated software modules by closely working with vendors, IT and other support groups.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including preparation of study reports, presentations, and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Preferred Experience and Skills
Experience with the Cell Painting or other HCI Phenotypic screening platforms.
Experience in programming in Python or R scripting languages for machine learning and predictive analysis
Application of AI and machine learning to image analysis, 3D image analysis and HCI data analysis
Experience with medium and high throughput automated screen execution in an academic or industrial setting.
Experience with large data sets processing and analysis using commercial software solutions like PE SpotFire, IDBS acitvitybase, or proprietary data base solutions.
Research and drug discovery working experience in multiple therapeutic areas, including immunology, oncology, and neuroscience.
