Position Summary
The Senior Manager, Global Strategy & Insights is responsible for developing, driving and implementing the strategy for the W&S division and overall for Constellation Brands. This individual will work closely with the Director & VP of Strategy & Insights and Wine & Spirits Leadership Team to develop annual and long-range strategic plans, fueled by category and consumer insights. The Strategy & Insights Sr. Manager will also partner with cross-functional stakeholders to develop and communicate action plans to drive strategic imperatives as well as execute and measure progress against key strategic initiatives. In addition, the Strategy & Insights Sr. Manager will lead ad-hoc, strategic projects for Constellation. The Strategy & Insights Sr. Manager will manage Strategy & Insights project team members to lead the scoping, execution, and delivery of strategy & insights to business partners.
Responsibilities
Corporate Strategy
- Lead the annual strategic planning process in collaboration with the VP, Strategy & Insights and senior leadership to develop the long range strategic plan and roadmap for CBI
- Diagnose key strategic and financial business issues and operational processes for the company
- Develop comprehensive strategies to prioritize and address growth, cost-cutting, organizational, financial and operational opportunities
- Support the Director & VP Strategy & Consumer Insights with planning, design, due diligence, and implementation of strategic initiatives. Define and communicate strategies and tactics to achieve those goals
- Lead evaluation and project management of certain strategic initiatives
- Prepare executive management / board level presentations summarizing findings and recommending actions
- Lead ad-hoc, strategic projects as they arise – examples of projects may include:
- Business / brand strategy refreshes
- Market diagnostics
- Digital transformation and acceleration
- Route to market optimization
- Cost transformation
- Operating model design
- Strategic model development
- Process mapping / redesign
- Competitive benchmarking
M&A and Business Development
- Lead the whitespace identification and portfolio shaping efforts for the W&S division; conduct regular market scans to identify new investment opportunities and develop investment theses
- Identify opportunities to divest or discontinue underperforming brands; partner with corporate development and commercial teams to execute
- Contribute to global diligence processes, partnering closely with corporate development and external advisors to assess strategic fit, analyze transaction terms, and support deal negotiation process
- Conduct post mortems on acquisition health to inform future M&A strategies
- Lead the identification and negotiation of ecosystem and non-product partnership opportunities; collaborate with commercial teams and corporate development to structure partnership terms, agree KPIs, and build execution roadmap
Division and People Leadership
- Support the Director, Global Strategy and Insights to:
- Drive initiatives on behalf of the WSLT, in support of delivering the strategic plan
- Develop and coach a diverse and high performing team of Strategy & Insights team members that is cohesive and collaborative, including Managers and Analysts
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Top tier M.B.A.
- 8-10+ years combined work experience
- Management consulting experience from top tier firm
- Experience managing major strategic projects and/or programs and rapidly driving change including top line growth, strategy, organizational structure/staffing and process, systems and supply chain improvements
- Highly collaborative with management, with the ability to engender trust with division President and other WSLT members
- Strong management and analytical capabilities, i.e. driving transformative change, reconciling large sets of data, conducting market analyses, with senior executive direction
- Blend of case/project team-lead management consulting experience and operating experience within a consumer-oriented business
- Very strong analytical skills and business acumen – ability to rapidly come up to speed on new issues and identify the critical questions to be addressed
- Excellent project management skills – ability to structure a complex issue and rapidly identify and test hypotheses
- Strong communications skills (verbal and written) and ability to communicate and influence all levels in the organization, including a broad base of finance and business partners
- Sufficient influence to effectively resolve issues and ensure business and resource commitment
- Demonstrated ability in leading/managing projects (with other functional areas, peers) and direct reports
- Experience managing and mentoring direct reports
- Comfort working through ambiguity and in a rapidly-changing environment
Preferred Qualification
- Degree preferably in Economics, Business, Finance or Accounting
- Beverage Alcohol / Consumer Goods experience preferred
- Prior marketing or consumer insights experience preferred
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to stand, walk, climb stairs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. It also requires sitting, operating a computer keyboard, telephone and other equipment, reading, talking and hearing for extended periods of time.
- Travel Required: Must be flexible in work style and schedule: travel up to 30% (non-COVID)
