Armstrong World Industries, Inc. has a job opportunity for a Mechanical Designer to be located in Lancaster, PA. Reporting to the Manager of Manufacturing Technical Support Design, the Mechanical Designer will serve as a valuable technical resource providing design support to our manufacturing facilities. Additionally, the Mechanical Designer will have direct responsibility to provide robust and safe equipment/system designs, including appropriate documentation, to meet performance and schedule requirements.

Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Designer:

  • Performing minor to moderate engineering design computations and reviews results with internal and external customers
  • Preparing conceptual design layouts
  • Designing equipment and systems for reliability and ease of maintenance
  • Preparing drawing packages to support engineering specifications
  • Ensuring adherence to applicable codes and standards within discipline
  • Participating in pre-appropriation meetings to determine project requirements
  • Translating design requirements into specific design configurations
  • Participating in the development of engineering design and process standards
  • Diagnosing operating problems and resolves process and equipment issues

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical and machine design, and drafting of industrial manufacturing equipment
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Inventor Professional
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the application of Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing methodologies, Statistical Process Control and Team Facilitation
