The Flow Cytometry Technician performs pre-analytical tasks pursuant to established and approved protocols requiring the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility.

The work schedule for this position will be 1st Shift (Tuesday - Saturday 9:00am - 5:30pm).

Responsibilities:

  • Duties include maintenance of equipment and records.

  • Performance of quality assurance activities related to test performance performed under direct supervision.

  • Runs daily standard checks for instrument alignment and reagent QC on the flow cytometers.

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria

  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures

  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality

  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls

  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care

  • Evaluate raw and final data for accuracy; recognize and correct errors or unusual results

  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures

  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary

  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed

  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment

Requirements:

  • Associates Degree in Medical Laboratory Science is required.

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Lab Science, Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or a related science is preferred

  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory testing experience is required for the Technologist level

  • ASCP or AMT certification is Required as a Medical Laboratory Technician

  • Tennessee state license if preferred but not required

  • Flow Cytometry experience is a plus

  • Proficient with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems

  • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment

  • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen

  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
